Janet is a partner at DZH Phillips LLP and is the lead partner in charge of the firm’s nonprofit niche. Her client base consists primarily of clients requiring audited or reviewed financial statements, including privately held companies and nonprofit organizations, with an emphasis on residential real estate (including affordable housing projects), nursing homes, continuing care retirement communities, religious organizations, and community service organizations. Sharing her knowledge of client and accountant relations, Janet wrote the publication Eldercare Provider Services, in which she discusses the importance of partnering with a public accounting firm that truly understands your business. This brochure was published by CPAmerica, a worldwide network of accounting and consulting firms, for use by member firms. She also authored HUD Audit Procedures, a reference guide for CPAs performing audits of HUD-assisted projects, published by Harcourt Brace Professional Publishing (now Aspen Publishing).
Janet began her career with Bank of America where she held positions in the International Accounting Department. She subsequently joined Wilson McCall & Daoro and became a founding partner of Daoro Zydel & Holland, one of the predecessor firms to DZH Phillips. Janet graduated from the University of San Francisco with a Bachelor of Science in accounting. She is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the AICPA, the California Society of CPAs, and LeadingAge, an association of nonprofit retirement communities. Janet currently serves on the finance and audit committees of LeadingAge and has participated as a speaker at their annual conference and local meetings. She is also a member and past president of the Board of Regents of Sacred Heart Cathedral High School in San Francisco where she serves on the Executive and Finance committees. Additionally, Janet is a member of the Committee of the Governing Board for the Daughters of Charity and Christian Brothers, serving in an advisory role in their sponsorship of Sacred Heart Cathedral High School, and has recently joined the Finance Advisory Committee for DeMarillac Academy in San Francisco.
Janet is especially interested in working with clients in the nonprofit sector, bringing to the table the aforementioned industry experience, a hands-on approach to problem solving, strong mediation skills, and a personal dedication to seeing her clients flourish. While work and community commitments keep Janet in the Bay Area, she enjoys travelling, especially to Italy and Ireland.
